Family Life Woodstock: Woodstock’s Generational Infrastructure Investment
Featured in the November 2024 Issue of Family Life Woodstock Magazine.
In my first State of the City Address, just twenty-one days into the job, I promised you orange cones. The top two issues you brought to me during my time on the campaign trail were traffic and parking in Woodstock, and we were positioning to make the largest infrastructure investments in our City’s history to address them. In the last two and half years, the City of Woodstock has reinvested in our infrastructure in truly historic ways, both in quantity of projects as well as scale of projects.
We have invested in our streets and highways with projects like the Hub Transformation project downtown, rebuilding and enhancing Neese Road, improvements on Towne Lake Parkway, Trickum, Highway 92, and with more on the horizon like the Ridgewalk Parkway Intersection transformation into a diverging diamond interchange. We are making the single largest investment in our City’s parks and trails after receiving an 87% approval on a parks bond referendum from the voters. We’re using that authorization to build Little River Park - which will double our City’s greenspace - and expand our bike and pedestrian trail system throughout the City limits while connecting to other networks all around us. We continue to upgrade our water and sewer systems to make sure our filtration and service capacities meet and exceed standards and that our systems are poised to handle Woodstock’s bright future.
We are living through a chapter in our City’s 126 year story that will define who we are for the next generation. Making these investments today positions us both to capitalize on the opportunities that come as well as ensure that the quality of life here will be one that our children will be proud to inherit. We’re doing everything we can to leave Woodstock better than we found it for our next generation.
This monumental effort can’t happen on its own. Our team of more than 225 incredible City staff are working day and night to deliver for our families. We all owe them a huge thank you. As we engage in this generational endeavor, we are working hard to keep you informed. Our communications team has been putting together weekly updates including a short on-site video from me on key infrastructure projects. You can check these out and keep up with the projects that matter most to you at woodstockga.gov/infrastructure. Our City has become one of the most visited in the southeastern United States and a home for dreamers and go-getters of all kinds. We are intent on meeting the challenges that come with our success by building a best-in-class infrastructure backbone that will position us not only to deliver today, but to meet the opportunities we find tomorrow and beyond.
